Faison Northeast Retail Development Gains Recognition For Maryland Projects

Bethesda, MD – October 8, 2007 – Faison’s Northeast Retail Development group based in Bethesda, MD recently earned recognition for their noteworthy statewide development efforts along with three of their recent Maryland shopping center developments. Awarded by The Daily Record at the occasion of their inaugural event, “The Real Dealmakers,” honors were given to Maryland projects, organizations and individuals who have contributed to the real estate industry by developing, building, buying and selling groundbreaking properties throughout the state.

Faison received accolades as Capital Region Top Commercial Developer and also for three of its contemporary projects: Brandywine Crossing for the category Capital Region Top Commercial Project; Waldorf Marketplace identified as the Southern Maryland Top Commercial Project; and Stone House Square recognized as the Western Maryland Top Commercial Project. Faison’s four acknowledgments and engraved glass plaques were the most earned by any developer at the awards ceremony.

Capital Region Top Commercial Project award went to Brandywine Crossing, a 750,000 square foot regional power center in Brandywine, MD at US 301 and MD Route 5. The center will feature 83 acres of retail plus a 19-acre office/flex space commercial district. Initial focus will be on the retail segment anchored by Target, Costco, and Safeway that is expected to deliver in the fourth quarter of 2008. Phase II should be completed in fall 2009.

Waldorf Marketplace was awarded the Southern Maryland Top Commercial Project. Located on Western Parkway and Berry Road in Waldorf, MD; the 425,000 square foot regional community center is anchored by Safeway, AC Moore, Petco and Office Depot in Phase I, and by DSW, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Kinkaid Furniture Company in Phase II . Restaurants include Red Robin, Famous Dave’s, California Tortilla, Three Brothers Pizza, Noodles & Co., Cold Stone Creamery, Starbucks Café, TGI Friday’s, and Mimi’s Café. Specialty shops include Chico’s, Jared, Joseph Banks, Kirkland’s, Bath and Body Works, Dress Barn, David’s Bridal, and Famous Footwear.

Selected for the award Western Maryland Top Commercial Project was Stone House Square. Located on MD Route 60 and the confluence of Eastern Boulevard and Northern Avenue in Hagerstown; the 265,000 square foot community center will feature Lowe’s Home Improvement, Weis Market and select specialty shops. Stone House Square will be completed in the second quarter of 2008. Sensitive to the historic stone farmhouse that remains on the grounds (which will be the home of a signature Starbucks Café) and the city’s rigorous design standards, the center has become the guiding principle for similar developments in the area.

“Faison is honored to be recognized by The Daily Record for its commercial development within the State of Maryland. We are committed to continuing our first-class, retail-oriented community, power, and lifestyle center building programs throughout Maryland and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic region,” stated Howard Biel, Senior Managing Director of Faison.
